1. He’s ‘Anti-Goverment’ & ‘Wanted to Kill TSA & Pigs’ Ciancia reportedly has “strong anti-government views,” according to NBC’s Pete Williams. This assessment was determined by the “anti-goverment materials” in his possession when he was captured. The AP reports Ciancia, who was dressed in military-style fatigues, carried a handwritten note that said he “wanted to kill TSA and pigs.” Witnesses say he was specifically targeting TSA employees — asking passengers whether they were TSA, and sparing them when they said they weren’t. One TSA agent is dead. 2. He’s From South Jersey, the Son of an Auto Shop Owner, But Lived in L.A. Ciancia is reportedly a U.S. citizen and resident of Los Angeles who grew up in Pennsville, South New Jersey. Heavy.com located a car-repair business in Pennsville tied to a Paul Ciancia, called Salem County Auto Repair. There was answer when we called the business. The Philadelphia Inquirer is now reporting that Ciancia is the son of an auto shop owner in Pennsville. ABC Philadelphia news producer Dave Prohaska tweets that there is a “police presence” outside the Ciancia family home in Pennsville, confirmed by this Fox 29 tweet: 3. He Recently Threatened Suicide, & Cops Went to His L.A. Apartment According to NBC New York: Police say the shooter’s brother got a text message from Ciancia Friday [today] saying he was thinking about taking his life. ABC Philadelphia reports that after the brother received the text, he told his father, who told the Pennsville police chief. The chief reached out to authorities in L.A. — but the call was too late. Pierre Thomas of ABC News tweets that LAPD cops were at Ciancia’s L.A. apartment to perform a welfare check at the time of the shooting. A local reporter says Ciancia’s roommates said things were “fine”: 4. Cops Believe He Acted Alone Police now believe the shooter was working alone, according to a press conference statement by LAX Police Chief Pat Gannon. This despite earlier rumors of multiple gunmen and witness reports to that effect. Adding the confusion, however, is footage of another man in handcuffs: 5. He Used a Rifle, Possibly an AR-15 The possible weapon used in today’s LAX shooting spree lies on the ground near the foot of an investigator. Reports suggest it was an AR-15 rifle. INSET: An AR-15. The gunman was armed with a rifle — described in some media reports as “high-powered” and in other reports called an AR-15 — which he pulled from a bag and began shooting at 9:20 a.m. local time at the security checkpoint of Terminal 3. There has been no official confirmation that it was an AR-15
